(1) 3 Key Disciplines of National Level  

Discipline of Agricultural Mechanization Engineering

    Discipline of Agricultural Mechanization Engineering, founded in 1948, was approved to award Master and Doctoral Degrees in 1981. In 1989, it was authorized to be one of the Key Disciplines of National Level. In 1998,the Post-Doctoral Station was built. In 2007, it was admitted by Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Education to become a provincial agricultural engineering demonstration center, now headed by Professor LiWenzhe.

Discipline of Basic Veterinary Medicine

    Discipline of Basic Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1949, was approved to award Master’s and Doctoral Degrees respectively in 1981 and 1984. Since 1988, it has become key disciplines of provincial and national levels. In 2007, after the examination, the discipline was reconfirmed by Ministry of Education to become the key discipline of national level, stretching from 2007 to 2010, now headed by Professor Li Qingzhang.

Discipline of Animal Nutrition and Feed Science

    Animal Nutrition and Feed Science is one of the earliest founded disciplines. In 1981, it was admitted to be one of the first few disciplines that offer Doctoral Degree of National Animal Nutrition. In 1995, one of the first Post-Doctoral Stations was built in the field of Animal Science. In 1999, it became the key discipline of Ministry of Agriculture, and in 2001, it was promoted to a key discipline of national level. In 2006, Animal Nutrition and Feed Science Laboratory was assessed to be a provincial key open laboratory, now headed by Professor ShanAnshan.

Discipline of Olericulture

    Discipline ofOlericulture was founded in 1976, with the characteristics of obvious Northern Cold Area on the aspects of Vegetable Seed Breeding and Cultivation Study, now headed by Professor Qin Zhiwei.

Discipline of Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction Science

    Discipline ofAnimal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction Science brought the first breeding pig—Harbin White Pig, the first breeding lean-pig—Sanjiang White Pig, and the first type of hen—Harbin White Hen. Great achievements were made in the studies of polymorphisms of serum of preserved population of Chinese native chicken breeds and the evaluation methods and standards of meat quality. The discipline takes the leading position in China, now headed by Professor Li Hui.

Discipline of Clinical Veterinary Medicine

    Discipline ofClinical Veterinary Medicine was one of the first disciplines that Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved to confer Master’s and Doctoral Degrees.Veterinary Surgery was the first station that offered Doctoral Degree of Surgery, whereas Veterinary Internal Medicine is the second station that has got the authority to grant Doctoral Degree of Internal Medicine in China. They were approved to be key disciplines of provincial level respectively in 1988, now headed by Professor WangHongbin.

     NortheastAgriculturalUniversity has established “National Science Base of Basic Scientific Research and Teaching Talents’ Training”. The Biology program started to recruit students in 1997, with academic year 8, practicing the patterns of “Bachelor—Master—Doctor” continuing study and distributary cultivation.
